Hey Mislead, do you know anything about P-90X?
I have never tried it but I do know it is pretty intense and if you're just starting to get into fitness I would suggest working your way up to doing that program.....I know you can download it from various websites if you are strapped for cash and you can check it out for yourself

as an aside to the Olestra in that list, when I was doing my pre-med and learning about the GI system, my friend and I invented Olestra. But when we got to what the side effects would be, we were like "uh oh, farting oil out of your butt would be awful. it will never sell" and we moved on to the next step to block fat metabolism. We never did come up with one that didn't have bad side effects on your undergarments, so we gave up.
And the guys who make Alli are probably billionaires.
as an aside to my original aside, ever read the side effects on side-effects of Alli on Alli users support group websites? it is hilarious. They recommend wearing brown clothing, and carrying around spare brown clothing with you wherever you go. :jj:

Alli Weight Loss Pill Side Effects
The most common side effect is unexpected, sudden, and explosive diarrhea. Literally pooping your pants. So while you’re at the drug store picking up your Alli, you may want to be like the Astronaut Lisa Nowak and buy yourself some diapers. Alli users are having to carry an extra pair of pants wherever they go - seriously!
I had the same problem as another reviewer with "leakage" (as Alli calls it). It was only the second day of taking it. I'm sure glad it was a day off. I spent all day in the bathroom and felt miserable.
"Seriously, this didn't work. I got so tired of ruining my underpants and rushing everywhere because I had to hit the bathroom whenever I was standing for a while that I had to stop taking this stuff. It's easier to just avoid fatty foods. It's a ridiculous product."
-- debbie, Centerville, OH
I pooped in my pants more than I lost weight.

Many places have it but it is damn expensive
Most are 96% lean organic grass fed and run 7$-$8 per pound
This place said if I orders enough they would cut it to $5 per pound & I could get it pre-packaged & frozen too right after it was ground which is perfect
Costco has 85% lean organic (not grass fed though) $4.33/lb
I'm trying that to see how I feel afterwards
and wtf is that vid all about
This thing sound about half as loud as a gunshot and the stuff is shot out at you just barely not going over the glass
Some middle eastern or indian guy was standing there and wasn't giving samples and could not seem to care any less so I didn't even bother asking wtf
I moved on to the free chocolate sampling around the corner 90% cacao w/ only 2% sugar was my favorite :)

I notice a lot of beef makes me feel shitty afterwards...i'm assuming it's the extra shit they put in it afterwards,
i'm gonna check out the butcher shop near my place and see what the price is there, maybe I can get a deal too if I buy enough...I don't mind freezing it either.
also, i'm staying away from most cereals after reading up on the preservatives that are in cereals...naive me thought there wouldn't be preservatives in most cereal but I was wrong

You'd think my butcher would care since I've been going to them for a while now.
But when I asked about quantity discount I got a fast NO
So I don't waste my time with bad business people I just move on to someone who wants me as a customer and is willing to give them my repeat business as long as they are reasonable. I'm gonna try the costco one which is probably corn fed and see how I feel afterwards. The hormones and antibiotics they put into regular cattle is usually unnecessary and definitely gets into the meat and has an affect on you.
I recently cut out all processed grains because they not only have tons of chemicals but molds in them as well. Based on my improved digestion it was the right thing to do.
So I've been slowly adding small amounts of organic brown rice and corn back into my diet and I'm doing ok so far
Next up I am going to try Quinoa & Amaranth

The guy at the market I go to gives you a taste test....he sells all kinds of honey, maybe you can find a place that sells honey exclusively in your area and give it a whirl. The only reason I ever vested any interest in Manuka honey is because a nutritionist that I was speaking with told me to give it a try and so I did :D
...also, I don't remember seeing any organic beef at Costco...maybe I should look closer. Is it in the same section as the regular stuff?
They don't always have it but when they do it is next to the regular ground beef
It is 85/15 and after tasting it yesterday I am positive it is not grass fed but corn fed
It tastes ok but the fat content is too high so I'm gonna keep checking for cheaper 96% GFB

Raw local grown honey is good for you too. It is also good to help you build up immunities and the best part about buying local you build up immunities to the local agricultural allergens.

just read this but I already knew it was shit :D
Apple Jacks and Froot Loops are the poster children of all that is wrong in the cereal category.
-Both have 3 teaspoons of sugar per serving. Most kids consume more than one serving. That’s quite a sugar rush at 7am.
-The first ingredient in both products is SUGAR!
-Each uses controversial artificial colors such as red #40. In the UK, these are being phased out because they lead to hyperactivity in kids.
-Froot Loops uses partially hydrogenated oils, aka trans-fat. Yes, it is in a small quantity, but the World Health Organization recommends ZERO daily consumption.
-A controversial preservative, BHT. Butylated hydroxytoluene, is an antioxidant preservative that can lengthen the shelf life of a product. There is some controversy around its safety, with reports of hyperactivity and carcinogenic properties.
-All the vitamins and minerals are sprayed onto the product, and not naturally present in the ingredients.
-Oh, in case you were wondering, there’s no fruit all in Froot Loops, and virtually no apple in Apple Jacks
To Kellogg’s credit, over the last 10 years, the sugar count has been reduced from 4 tsp to 3 tsp, but that is still crazy high. The manufacturers have also switched from refined flour to whole grain. But it’s not 100% whole grain.

blue agave? interesting..haven't heard of that one
The only really bad things I do often are:
1) drinking diet soda...like, a lot; and

Are there really bad side-effects to drinking diet soda (i.e., Coke Zero)? And what are the long-term side effects of nearly a decade of nic gum?

Its low glycemic and absorbs slowly. I started using it when the doc told me my triglycerides were a little high. Next time I went in they were down and have been ever since. If you get it in a store or from amazon it is over $30 for a 20 oz bottle. I get it here. $10 for a 44 oz bottle.

You know I've been taking that for a little bit not sure if it is improving me or not as I hadn't felt a noticeable difference.
But when I ate some raw garlic and a small amount of cayenne pepper in lemon juice and took it holy crap I could feel my intestines, liver and kidneys we going :c this is good for us.
I felt so good the other day.
I looked online and read that cayenne pepper especially helps to stimulate everything in your digestion process and enables the milk thistle to have the greatest effect on your liver. It appears I'm getting close to doing what is considered a cleanse. I give absolutely no credit to Robin.

2) chewing nicotine gum....like, a lot.
And what are the long-term side effects of nearly a decade of nic gum?
Chewing nicotine gum for a long time is giving you the problems that nicotine gave you when you smoked, you also now risk oral cancer (possible losing your teeth or tongue) even stomach cancer because you are swallowing the nicotine. If you can't quit it I suggest slowly adding regular gum. If you have to take an exacto knife and cut a little bit off and gradually increase the amount you are cutting off. Not only that, think of the money you'll save. I had a lot of vices, drugs and alcohol. I quit them all except for an occasional beer or glass of wine and smoking was actually the hardest to give up but it can be done.
I've been meaning to get to try agave. How's the taste?
Not much of a taste. If you're buying it for a flavor, like the reason somebody buys honey for, you'll be disappointed. If you taste it plain, you will get a tiny, tiny taste other than the sweetness. If you add it to cereal, you wont be able to tell the difference between that and sugar. On cereal though I use honey because I like the taste of honey, you wont get a taste from the agave syrup. It's good for something like sweetening coffee (why anyone would ruin the taste of coffee by sweetening it is beyond me) or good for baking or cooking.
If your family has a high rate of diabetes it would be worth looking into.

Hey Mislead, i saw a commercial yesterday no doubt put out by the High Fructose Corn Syrup people, that said "your body can't tell the difference between sugar and high fructose corn syrup."
I thought the wording was interesting. what do you know about this?

I can't stand quinoa although I try to eat it. I actually get the flakes version and blend it with everything. Mashed potatoes, oatmeal, even spinkle it in soup. I have rinsed the he'll out of the grains and still can't get rid of the taste.

I know enough to try my best at staying away from processed foods as they are not good for you plus they promote a gain in fat...plus why would be even remotely good for someone to consume that much sugar (fake sugar)

Ugggghhhh. I just got back from the ER not so long ago. My mom's been in a lot of pain the last few days and apparently has a gallstone. Supposedly it's huge so surgery may be necessary. They gave her morphine so she could sleep and are keeping her overnight. No one would give me a straight answer, all I was told was they'll be doing a "surgical consult" (in other words there are only residents on duty and they don't know what the fuck they're doing/talking about) in the morning.

Sorry to hear that Snap my mom went through the same thing.
Mom is a tough old broad and refused to do surgery until she exhausted every other possibility. She powered through the pain for 2 weeks. She said it reminded her of what she thought Joe Thiesman must have felt when his leg snapped but for 2 weeks instead of an afternoon.
She went to see a Naturopathic Doctor and not only did they help pass the stone but saved her gall bladder and liver. No surgery. Of course her doctor was telling her all along you could die blah blah you must do surgery.
She's part of the reason I changed around what I do with my diet and health now. Another reason was all the cigarettes and soda were killing me.

Some insurance will cover those type of doctors especially if they are an MD.
As I recall there is some risk depending on the size of the stone. If it gets lodged in the common bile duct that could be big trouble and might force surgery. But they did something to soften it up and break it down enough to pass. Then afterwards she did some kind of Liver and Gall Bladder detox stuff to clear out remaining stones. Sounds like Robin in a way. But it really worked. It has been a long time I don't recall the details.
Hope she gets through it ok.

I've learned some of the differences of healthy fats and unhealthy fats so I'll share my current understanding here. If anyone has more or contrary info please post.
Heart healthy oil is high in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and low in saturated and trans fats. It also makes a difference of the temperature that you use for the fats.
Example: Cold pressed extra virgin olive oil is best at room temp or lowest cooking temps possible to preserve it benefits. Although apparently heating most of these oils at all changes its properties and that reduces or eliminates any health benefits.
The one oil I noticed they missed below is Coconut Oil which is high in Saturated fat but apparently still very healthy for you. Although I've writings from at least one Dr say that this oil should be eaten heated not cold.

Infection to go along with the stone so they're treating the infection...once it goes down they'll make sure she can eat and sleep ok then release her. Of course they can't give her anything to shrink the stone, they want her to come back in 6 weeks for the cholecystectomy.

Glad you're looking out for your mom. :) Sounds like you take my approach. Family is #1 and we make the healthcare decisions affecting it, not a doctor.
The anti-biotics may manage the infection but will kill all bacteria and likely actually weaken your mother's immune system prior to surgery. This could be a challenge as she may also have difficulty eating in her current condition. I'm sure you want her in the best shape possible prior to surgery. Consider asking the Dr. if he has any issues with taking Pro-biotics (to keep her digestive tract in the best shape possible) and/or vitamin supplements prior to surgery. Then you can do a quick check for this online to find out which ones should help or ask the Dr for recommendations. Most recommendations say to stop all supplements a certain period of time prior to surgery. Don't be surprised if you get anywhere from a confused to hostile response as many Drs. don't like these types of things.
BTW: Unless you want a doctor that doesn't know your mom, her history and may not have her real best interest in mind to make final decisions that may affect her permanently then before she goes into the hospital consider getting a medical power of attorney document. That is if your Dad isn't around. This names the person designated to call all the shots for her health care if she in not able to do so. Give it to the admissions people on when your mom does her check-in for the surgery. Have them sign and date it and keep a copy. (FYI: They may not like this. I've had one bad experience where they actually tried to imply that we couldn't do it.) :jj: fuckers
Hope these things help. Keep us up to date. Best wishes for your mom.

Update: Now they're saying (since her pain has subsided but not gone away totally, and there is no blockage) that there may not be an infection and the stone may not even be causing the problem. It's now most likely a stomach ulcer. They still want to operate down the line (which is bullshit, I know there's enough time where they can give her something to shrink it...even though they say it never goes away w/o the surgery) but who knows if this asshole (Dr. Fink...wonder if he's Jimmy's brother lol) even knows what he's talking about? So we're in a holding pattern. She'll still be there for the rest of the week while they treat for ulcers, run upper GI tests, colonoscopy etc. and make sure she can eat solid foods before they release her. Where's House when you need him? :pissed:

Now I'm finding out most of that shit I recently posted is hearsay bullshit. Like I said my aunt's a retard. I had to scream on her this morning...she told me to wait to talk to mom as she was approaching from the bathroom. I asked why I was on hold for so long. "Oh she's moving slow because of the pain." Ok, so get your stupid fat ass out of the chair and help her if you see she's having a hard time...it's not a corded landline dumbass!!!
Mom's is telling a different story from what useless told me.. The ulcer theory is still up in the air. They're still fucking up her IV's (she hasn't "eaten" since this afternoon and they have to keep re-inserting the shunt) and no one knows what they're doing. I'm getting some answers tomorrow no matter what or we're switching hospitals.
Man these guys are going to fuck her up with diabetes, the glucose IV and no food
Sounds risky to leave her their. If they did say they won't release her until they are sure she can eat they are already fronting to pull the bullshit I told you about. They don't make the call she does. She can check herself out any time she want to do it.

I don't blame the staff. This particular hospital used to have a reputation for being great, but like anything else with all of the cuts in the area folks assumed this was the best option and eventually it was overloaded. Now the standard of service has been lowered due to the increased volume of patients.

Thanks bro. Just getting back and changing into dry clothes. I regulated just like I said I would. Reported them to the patient advocate.
Grabbed the nurse, resident and attending and got everything straight. They did an endoscopy and although the tests won't be back until the morning it's looking like gastritis. No surgery, gall bladder removal or any of that. They'll give her some meds and a script for prilosec or whatever and hopefully she'll be released in a couple of days.
Of course the way this hospital is the story could be totally different again tomorrow so I made it clear I'll be back. I'm beat now...just wanted to pop in and give a quick update.
