Any other Breaking Bad fans in here?
One of the guys from the Breaking Good podcast used to post at SFN...anyone know if he is around the Saloon? He turned me on to his podcast and I definitely enjoyed it. Looking forward to the new season.
Any theories for the new season?

Because the writers/creators have pride, and don't want to ruin it. Ya know, like they did with M*A*S*H, "The Office", etc, etc.

Best show currently on tv - hands down, and maybe the best ever. And yes it is going to end. Vince Gilligan had a vision for the show and he is sticking to it. As much as I hate to see the show go, he has balls for sticking to his guns and finishing on top, which they will no doubt do. They are prolonging the end, though. I want to say that the last season will have 13 or 18 shows, and they are going to split it. Half this summer, and the rest in 2013.
I have to qualify my statement by saying that it is the best show on tv if you don't include AGT in the mix, with AGT, of course, being the best show of ALL TIME.

I have to agree with everyone about this show being the best show on TV...better written and cast than the Sopranos. The writing, the acting, the production, just about everything is top notch. I hope AMC has some other shows in the works that are as good, if not better, than this show. It's hard to watch network TV after watching shows like this, Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, etc...

Mad Men is good, but it's not great. I think the only reason that show won the emmy for best show for the last 4 years is a combination of the set design, wardrobe and authenticity of the time period.
Other than that, the writing is good, the acting is good, but it's nothing that makes you say "holy fuck!" like Breaking Bad does.

I watch Mad Men and thought it was the best show until this last season...big let down this season. The "hiatus" Matt Weiner took to to renegotiate his contract (something he did when he was head writer on Sopranos that caused that show to stop production for months) made the writing and flow of the episodes suffer. I hope that next season will be better.

It was spoiled for me unfortunately...I was late to the game. But I can still recognize how brilliant that scene was shot. I hate to use the word "brilliant" so freely, but it really was. In a few seconds you were immediately tricked into being falsely disappointed, then disgusted and repulsed by the reality and then you got to savor Walt's victory as soon as you processed it all. So fucking good.

I kind of disagree about Mad Men. I really love the show and the acting, but you are correct in that the set design and wardrobe are a huge component, almost like another actor. I would agree that it is no Breaking Bad, but if you are going to change the channel and you have a choice between Mad Men and AGT, well......:)

The Game of Thrones addiction factor is insane. You're probably smart to avoid it. I loved every second of it to the point where I started listening to the audiobooks after season 2 ended. More than that, I find myself going to fucking GOT wiki sites to read up on imaginary battles and genealogy of characters named Rhaegar and Daenerys Targaryen.

Another great show (if you've never caught it) and would like to zip through it on netflix is Battlestar Galactica.
I know, I know. Lots of people were disappointed with the ending, but if you aren't waiting a week in between episodes, you won't be bothered by the ending. In fact, you'll love it.
that's actually my favorite show of the past (say...) 15 years on television.

Funny. I couldn't get through the first two episodes of Sons of Anarchy. I mean, I tried, mainly because I love Katey Segal, but that show was just insufferably boring to me. Did something happen around episode 3 or 4 that made you go WHOA!? 'Cause if not?
I'll have to pass on that one.
SoA does get a lot better but if you hated it than i wouldnt bother going back to watch it. Justified is a better FX show if you haven't seen that.

The Walking Dead is nothing more than brain candy. One of those shows you can watch whilst semi-shitfaced, because you know it doesn't require a whole lot of attention.
The shame is the comics are/were so fucking good. It's actually really smart and was able to really fuck with you and get you emotionally invested in the characters. Now it's reduced to a sloppy, melodramatic borefest with shitty CGI. And I want every single character to die.
You have a decent budget, excellent source material and zombies...how the hell can you fuck that up? Yet they managed. And, yet, I'll be watching season 3 like the dope that I am, hoping it gets salvaged.

Here is my opinion.
The show will end with a final battle between Walt and Jessie.
Walt was a worm, who always got fucked over, was over educated and under appreciated. Walt has 'evolved'
Jessie was a fuck up druggie, who has now 'evolved'
Walt is 'breaking bad'. The question is who else will he have to destory to 'save' himself. Where does it end?
I REALLY hope they bring back Gus. He obviously died, but that wouldnt prevent them from using him in 'flashbacks', where they could continute to explain the backstory between him and Salamanca

There's a Painkiller Jane show? With the T-X chick?? Shit I'm really out of the loop.
The cancellation aspect is a big reason I stay away from TV all together. The possibility of an abrupt ending ruins any chance to invest in it. At least with GOT, if it gets cancelled, the story will be concluded in The Songs of Fire and Ice.

There's definitely more to Gus than we are told. The show eluded to it and I imagine it will play a big role in the story somehow.
A battle between Walt and Jessie is inevitable. The Lily of the Valley in Walt's backyard suggests some pretty heavy shit. We can predict whether or not Walt will survive the series, but I think the more interesting question is will he even remain a protagonist?

The writing's been too consistent for that, I think. I know a lot of people could say the same about the Sopranos ending (which I eventually loved btw) but I'm really not worried about Breaking Bad going off the rails. I don't even want to think about that.

I never liked any of the Mortal Kombat stuff. I loved the games as a kid/teenager, but that first movie was a huge disappointment. I knew it was PG13, but I figured there'd be some form of cool fatalities. Nope.
The MK legacy vids seemed like they'd be a cool, dark, gritty take on the franchise, but it got just as silly as the previous attempts.

While i wont read this thread thanks to asshole spoiler fuckers from last season at the other place... I will contribute...
On a long drive back from lincoln nebraska this week i listened to an old npr interview with ap.... He said his pinkman character was suppossed to b killed off in season 1, but they didnt do it because of his on screen chemistry with walter white.. I heard it was the writers' strike that caused them to rethink it. while they wanted Walter to really feel the danger and remorse that comes with this very real shit he's gotten himself into, Jesse was to be killed, but...Aaron Paul impressed the hell out of them and got progressively better and better and yeah, the chemistry between him and Bryan probably cemented it.
So, yeah. Aaron got a reprieve from the chopping block due to the writers' strike.

I vaguely remember but wasn't it something about Walt refusing too cook before he spoke to Gus and Victor just started doing the cook with Jesse and their batch came out at 92% or some shit instead of 98 or 99% I could be way off

So I spent the past two weeks rewatching Seasons 1 through 3.
And what's striking is that everybody looks a lot older from Season 3.
I mean, a really lot older.
Skyler has aged a lot.
She used to look hot.
Now she's looking like she hit the wall.
Jesse also looked like a young 20-something dude.
Now he looks a lot older, especially with the shaved head.
Yeah, I know people age.
But considering it's been less than a year since the pilot, it's shocking how much they've aged.
Perhaps you can blame the stress of the meth business.

The series is really missing Gus. It's still great, but with one of the best villains in TV history gone, they're really having to do a Stern-esque "slow build" this season to develop another antagonist. I have the feeling that 8 episodes isn't going to do a whole lot, and we're gonna be left hanging (more than usual) almost an entire year for the last 8.

The Dexter books went South after the very first one and the tv creators wisely chose to not follow any of the books after the first. Most of the books are really bad.
The TV Dexter writing the last 2 seasons has now sunk to the level of the books.

my theory since like the beginning of the last season has always been this:
the show will have a somewhat surprising, tragic ending. the writers are way too smart to deliver anything cliche' or expected, like walt sr. dying in a shootout (as the misdirection of the SCARFACE blurb alluded to last episode) or of cancer. my theory is that walt will NOT die at the end of the series. this show will be a chronicle of his rise to the top as a drug kingpin, kinda like how ROSEANNE ended the series with her writing in her journal (although in that show everything was fabricated like in DALLAS).
anyway my theory is along the lines of what you are saying about walt jr. walt jr. is going to die due to something walt sr. did and it will be by accident. his wife will leave him or turn him in or whatever along with the baby. although, it could also go that someone else offs skyler (perhaps ted will put a hit out? i don't trust that guy at all). either way, his family will no longer be his family at some point.
any which way you slice it, i feel like it's either going to end by walt sr. having no one and having fully turned into keyser soze type character, OR it's going to end with walt sr. and jesse facing off and jesse having to be forced to kill walt for whatever reason. however, i really don't see that happening simply because it's too predictable. so would be a hank vs. walt sr. ending (UNLESS walt sr. kills hank!). i know the ending will end up being sad, but i think the saddest thing would be for walt sr. to have fully transformed into heisenberg and having no family left (either by death or by alienation), which was the very thing he tried to protect by starting up the meth business from the get-go.

That was always my impression.
Inside the cigarette was just a place that could be carried with him all over and they didn't think would be searched/found..also making
it easily accessible for use etc. (...although it could have been sewn into his clothing..even though IMO..Mike and Gus would probably
be smart enough to have Jesse change clothes and to supply him with whatever else he needed...cigarettes etc...but then you're
also getting into the various trust issues that were at play in the storyline..on all sides.)

Which part of the final season?....the first eight episodes or the second eight next summer?
Have they announced if the first eight episodes will end with some sort of a mid-season cliffhanger of
some sort? I'd assume that it most probably will.
..and that might be a moment for a big Hank related something or other.
It's always surprised me that Hank doesn't have Jesse tailed like a beast...even with all of the various legal
issues that are involved.

So, instead of sleeping, I've been reading reviews of last night's episode.
Some were blown away, saying it's the best episode of the season.
Some say it was harrible, that BB jumped the shark, especially with all the plot holes.
But I think I've read enough rebuttals to the plot holes that I can accept last night's episode (toss them up, I'll try to swat them down).
I'm sort of in the middle.
The problem is that I usually watch BB at 7 pm, when it first airs.
But there was a fuckload of TV last night, from Roseanne Roast to Ryan Seacrest co-hosting the Olympic closing ceremony.
And I couldn't get to the episode till midnight.
By then, I had encountered tweets by people saying shit like "How could Landry do that?" and "Holy fuck."
And I was spoiled that something big was going to happen, so when it happened, it didn't real blow my mind away.

I hope to watch it tonight on DVR. A "harrible" episode of BB is still better than anything else on tv.

Here's (http://www.grantland.com/blog/hollywood-prospectus/post/_/id/55177/breaking-bad-season-5-episode-5-dead-freight) a good article, to which I was directed from the other BB thread in the bar.

The best show on tv, hands down. Maybe the best ever. However, I thought that the most recent episode was a bit weak by BB standards. It just seemed a little over-the-top, Great Train Robbery-ish, if that makes sense. The end was great, but since they foreshadowed the event in the beginning, it wasn't much of a shock.

when they use foreshadowing they need to do it like they did with the plane crash. I swore there was an explosion at walt's coming until the planes smacked each other. Showing the kid trap the spider then get offed by Todd in the same episode was weak sauce...but then again, so was a train robbery where a truck showing up almost ruins the plan. A fucking flat tire would have accomplished the same thing without a chance for a good sam to stumble upon the robbery. It's not like you can jack up a 10 wheeler and pop on a spare.

^ This. The plane crash and the foreshadowing around it was done so well. I thought there'd be an explosion as well!! I felt that this time it was a play from the "foreshadowing for dummies" handbook.

For me BB is as good as Battlestar Galactica. I only hope it doesn't end as shitty.
I personally think that Jr. is going to die in a car accident.
Say what you want about Skylar, the broad playing her (Anna Gunn?) is hitting it out of the park EVERY scene. Whenever she told Walt she was waiting for his cancer to come back I finally got all of her passive aggressive smoking around the house. I also think it was easier for Skylar to accept their new life style when her family wasn't in danger. The reality that Gus was going to kill her family changed everything for her.

We sat there in silence for a few moments after the initial "OH MY GOD!" moment at the end (my lady actually shed tears and said, "I haven't felt this way since Rita..." ... Dexter fans know what I mean). I really thought Landry was undercover, but that is exactly what they wanted us to believe, so him shooting that kid was twice as shocking when it happened. Funny how a TV show full of fictional characters in fictional situations can hang a 50-pound weight of dread around your neck for days. I still feel awful, mostly for Jesse ... and he's a god damn TV character! Ugh.

Well, that boy's death will start to unravel everything fast. Key element--that Walt told Skyler he was going to rob a train. Alburquerque police start investigating a missing boy who was out riding his dirt bike around the train trestle. They may get rid of the body...and the bike, but they can't cover up the boy's tires marks from the very beginning, his footprints from where he got off his bike to get the spider.
Police will talk to the trainmen and find out that they had an unscheduled stop b/c of a stalled dirt truck. They'll inquire about what was on the train. They'll discover the diluted methlyamine. DEA enters the picture.
Skyler will hear on the news about a boy who went missing around the train tracks and that asks anyone who saw him to call an 800 number. Skyler will pick up the phone to make the call cuz she believes Walt the Danger had something to do with this and he is truly a monster.
Meanwhile...Lydia decides to seek an "immunity-type deal" that'll grant her and her child witness protection.

my theory since like the beginning of the last season has always been this:
the show will have a somewhat surprising, tragic ending. the writers are way too smart to deliver anything cliche' or expected, like walt sr. dying in a shootout (as the misdirection of the SCARFACE blurb alluded to last episode) or of cancer. my theory is that walt will NOT die at the end of the series. this show will be a chronicle of his rise to the top as a drug kingpin, kinda like how ROSEANNE ended the series with her writing in her journal (although in that show everything was fabricated like in DALLAS).
anyway my theory is along the lines of what you are saying about walt jr. walt jr. is going to die due to something walt sr. did and it will be by accident. his wife will leave him or turn him in or whatever along with the baby. although, it could also go that someone else offs skyler (perhaps ted will put a hit out? i don't trust that guy at all). either way, his family will no longer be his family at some point.
any which way you slice it, i feel like it's either going to end by walt sr. having no one and having fully turned into keyser soze type character, OR it's going to end with walt sr. and jesse facing off and jesse having to be forced to kill walt for whatever reason. however, i really don't see that happening simply because it's too predictable. so would be a hank vs. walt sr. ending (UNLESS walt sr. kills hank!). i know the ending will end up being sad, but i think the saddest thing would be for walt sr. to have fully transformed into heisenberg and having no family left (either by death or by alienation), which was the very thing he tried to protect by starting up the meth business from the get-go.
I think the business about the tradition of the birthday age being written with bacon, a couple shows in, as a family tradition was sort of telling. Thinking back about the opening scene of the season with Walt dark and down remembering the tradition and doing it ALONE to his own pancakes. This means the family is long gone and he is now a one many army after buying the M60. What happens after he shuts the trunk is anyone's guess, either he's going to rescue what's left of his family, or the DEA is on his tail??

Well, whatever it is, it will be bad. The showrunner Vince Gilligan has said that Walt is going to do something so awful this season that it will be virtually impossible for people to empathize with him afterward.

That season was so fucking good with Lithgow. The last really good season, IMO. I guess it's hard to top that one, and Lithgow pretty much made sure any future Dexter antagonists would pale in comparison. The ending of that season stuck with me for a long time.

That's the one where Rita died, right? I was so glad that Lithgow fucking killed her. I hated Rita. I don't know why but she really pissed me off. She was sooooo amaaaaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzzingggggg and perfect, like Beth. I'll bet she didn't shit either.
