You gotta feel for Robin. I didn't read her book, but from what I've heard on the show, she had a horrible childhood, which has basically fucked her up for life. A fact she refuses to accept, which is why she couldn't do therapy and try to improve things. I don't think she ever feels like she can let her guard down. I mean imagine if you had to go through life that mixed up. It's got to be hell.
